Carolina Coastal 119 was crossing Runyan Creek between Washington Park and Washington NC when the cab suddenly lurched left. The engineer thought he was going to take a bath. Some pilings supporting the bridge had given way allowing the rail to sink nearly a foot on one side. The engineer did a great job of getting the loaded train stopped. The rest of the day was spent judging the situation, devising, a plan, and removing the train from the bridge. The locomotive and two cars were moved south off the bridge. Another locomotive was brought from Pinetown to attach to the other end of the train and pull the cars back to the north, removing the last car on the bridge from the span.
