The R3 Dual Rail Gang came to Beaufort County in November of last year to replace the track from Chocowinity to Aurora, commonly called the WL. But, before work can start, there is work to be done. two videos below show some of the preparation that went into the work.

A Herzog train was brought in to put out hardware (spikes, plates, anchors, etc) before the crews arrive to actually switch out the rails. You can see the previously dropped larger gauge ribbon rail already laying beside the old trackage.

The R3 Dual Rail Gang’s operating equipment comes on a series of flat cars with removable rails between them. The empty train is seen here after deploying all the machines used by the crew of nearly 100 men who about to start the job. The camp cars and their diner stayed in New Bern.
