Washington & Vandemere Depot

EXTRA

The Washington and Vandmere Railroad ran from Eureka Lumber at the west end of Main Street in Washington to Vandemere on the Bay River in Pamlico County. The line had their own Pamlico River trestle where the power line right-of-way runs today.  The line had a stop sign where in crossed the current Norfolk Southern rail line at Porter about where the Highway 17 By-Pass bridge today crosses the railroad. Most of the right-of-way of the W&V has since become the current WL track from Chocowinity to Aurora. The 1902 depot still stands in Vandemere, though it has been moved.
