Tennessee born, Amythyst Kiah works out of Johnson City these days. Her very strong stage presence and songs bring Tracey Chapman to mind for me. Her song “Black Myself,” performed by Our Native Daughters (Kiah, Rhiannon Giddens, Leyla McCalla, and Allison Russell) won 2019 Song of the Year at the Folk Alliance International Conference and nominated for a Grammy for Best American Roots Song.
